The Snake playbook

Take a moment with Snake before moving to another game. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Look at what changes after your first action.

One thing to notice as you play

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Use the example to check your reasoning.

The goal to keep in mind

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Making your moves

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Controls

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

Work through an example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Keep the controls nearby.

A mistake to avoid

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
